Kara Patterson gets first international win in Japan...

KAWASAKI, Japan--Vancouver's Kara Patterson (left/photo by Paul Merca) earned her first international victory Wednesday afternoon at the Super Track & Field Meeting in the Japanese city.

The two-time USA national champion out of Skyview High School threw the javelin 189-7 (57.80m) on her fifth attempt to earn the victory at Todokori Athletics Stadium, after Japan's Yuki Ebihara took command in round 3 with a toss of 182-7 (55.65m).

Other highlights of the meet, held during a national holiday in Japan, included American Tyson Gay's victory in the 100m in a modest time of 10.13, and three-time world 200m champ Allyson Felix's win in the 100m in 11.22.

Patterson moves on to Daegu, South Korea on Friday for the last major meet on the Asian circuit, the Colorful Daegu Pre-Championships Meeting at Daegu Stadium, the site for the 2011 IAAF World Track & Field Championships.
