Andrea Geubelle qualifies for triple jump finals at world juniors...

MONCTON, New Brunswick--Curtis High School graduate and current University of Kansas freshman Andrea Geubelle (left/photo courtesy University of Kansas) qualified for the finals in the women's triple jump Wednesday morning as competition continued at the IAAF World Junior Track & Field Championships.

Geubelle jumped 42-8 3/4 (13.02m) on her first of three attempts in the competition, according to the USA Track & Field news release.

The University Place resident and reigning USA junior triple jump champ will have a busy day Thursday, with qualifying in the long jump in the morning, and finals in the triple jump in the evening.

University of Washington freshman Joe Zimmerman, the USA junior champ, and Tahoma HS senior Derek Eager, will compete in the qualifying round of the javelin Thursday at noon, Moncton time.

AROUND THE CIRCUIT

Bernard Lagat (m1500), Jarred Rome and Mart Israel (mDT), Ginnie Powell Crawford (100mH), and Kara Patterson (wJT) are entered in Thursday's stop of the Samsung Diamond League Circuit, the Herculis International Meeting in Monte Carlo, Monaco.

Patterson, the three-time USA national champion and American record holder from Vancouver, is currently tied for second with South Africa's Sunette Viljoen in the race for the diamond in the javelin, behind reigning Olympic champion and world record holder Barbora Spotakova of the Czech Republic.

Crawford, who pulled up at the first hurdle in her last Samsung Diamond League race in Lausanne, is currently tied for fourth with Germany's Carolin Nytra.

The meet will be streamed live via UniversalSports.com, and shown on a same-day delay basis on Universal Sports (channel 115 on Seattle Comcast).

In what may be a bit of disturbing news comes this report that USATF CEO Doug Logan's job may be in jeopardy.

Logan met with USATF president Stephanie Hightower and Jeff Darman of the board of directors last week in Columbus, Ohio, where he was told to show improvement by next month or face dismissal.

Wnen asked if he thought his job was, in fact, in jeopardy, Logan said: "I've always stated as a proposition that you're only as good as your last day's performance."
