Kara Patterson throws second furthest US javelin mark at Nike Prefontaine Classic...

EUGENE, Oregon--Vancouver native Kara Patterson (left/photo by Paul Merca) continued her hot streak in the javelin, as the three-time US national champion responded with a sixth round throw of 216-2 (65.90m) to overtake Slovenia's Martina Ratej and win the Prefontaine Classic javelin throw in a new meet record.

Heading into round 5, Patterson found herself mired in third place, but moved to second with her mark of 200-11 (61.24m), as Ratej moved to the lead with her toss of 211-3 (64.40m).

In the final round, Patterson responded with the winning toss, but Ratej's response was short, only throwing 202-9 (61.80m).
