Kara Patterson continues winning streak at Harry Jerome Track Classic...

BURNABY, British Columbia--It was an easy day's bit of work for Vancouver's Kara Patterson (left/photo by Paul Merca), as the new American record holder won the women's javelin competition at the Harry Jerome Track Classic in a new meet record mark of 202-0 (61.58m), breaking the old mark set by former American record holder Kim Kreiner.

After opening with a toss of 185-5 (56.53m), Patterson got her best mark in round two, then followed it up with a third round throw of 193-4 (58.94m), before shutting it down and calling it a day, passing on her three remaining tosses.

Patterson spoke to paulmerca.blogspot.com afterwards. Here is the video interview:

In other events involving Washington affiliated athletes, the University of Washington's Kyle Nielsen finished second with a throw of 239-7 (73.04m), behind US national champ Sean Furey, who threw 252-3 (76.89m) to overtake Nielsen on his last throw.

Nielsen will compete Friday in the men's javelin at the NACAC Under-23 championships in Miramar, Florida as part of Team Canada.

US junior champ from the University of Washington Joe Zimmerman finished sixth with a toss of 216-2 (66.32m), as he prepares for the IAAF World Junior Championships in Moncton, Canada.

In the men's high jump, former Husky Norris Frederick failed to clear a height. He said he has been having problems with his left (plant leg) fibula since the US nationals in Des Moines.

In the women's pole vault, former Washington standout Carly Dockendorf finished fourth with a clearance of 13-9.25 (4.20m).
