Ingvill Måkestad, Jordan Boase, Aretha Thurmond & Ginnie Powell Crawford gear up for Lausanne Diamond League meet Thursday...

LAUSANNE, Switzerland--Former University of Washington standouts Ingvill Måkestad (left/photo courtesy runingvill.wordpress.com), Jordan Boase, and Aretha Thurmond are among some of the competitors from around the world that have converged upon the Swiss city to participate in Thursday's Athletissa meet, part of the Samsung Diamond League series of premium meets.

Måkestad, who ran in Samsung Diamond League meets in Doha and Oslo so far, is entered in the 1500 meters, where she'll face a field that includes Nancy Langat of Kenya, Gelete Burka of Ethiopia, and Maryam Jamal of Burundi.

Måkestad, who is preparing for the upcoming European Championships in Barcelona at the end of the month as a member of Team Norway, set her personal best of 4:06.08 in Doha.

Boase, who skipped the USA championships in Des Moines, will run in the 200 against Olympic medalist Walter Dix, who beat Tyson Gay in last Saturday's Prefontaine Classic, and veterans Shawn Crawford and Xavier Carter. Boase was added to the field late.

Thurmond, the three time US Olympian, will throw the discus against Olympic champ Stephanie Brown Trafton, world champ Dani Samuels of Australia, and Yarelis Barrios of Cuba.

Also entered in Lausanne is Rainier Beach HS alum Ginnie Powell Crawford in the 100 meter hurdles against old rivals Perdita Felicien and Priscilla Lopes-Schliep of Canada

The Athletissa meeting will be shown online at universalsports.com live starting at 11 am, pacific time, and on a delayed basis on Universal Sports (channel 115 on Seattle area Comcast) starting at 5 pm.

NACAC UNDER-23 MEET IN FLORIDA THIS WEEKEND...

Washington State's Jeshua Anderson (400 hurdles/4 x 400 relay pool), Anna Layman (800m), and Marissa Tschida (javelin), along with Western Washington's Sarah Porter (10000m) were named by USA Track & Field to compete in the NACAC Under-23 championships beginning Friday in Miramar, Florida.

Additionally, Athletics Canada named the University of Washington's Kyle Nielsen to its squad, as he will throw the javelin.

The NACAC Athletic Association's U23 Championships are held every two years in one of the 32 member nations of the North America, Central America and Caribbean Athletic Association, one of six regional athletics associations affiliated with the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF).

UW NOTES ON JUSTINE JOHNSON & KATIE FOLLETT...

Husky freshman Justine Johnson competed in the Canadian Junior Track Championships, running the 1,500-meters in Moncton, New Brunswick. At the Juniors, she ran the second-best prelim time of 4:33.85, but just missed out on the World Junior team the following day by finishing fourth in the final at 4:35.23.

Recently graduated senior Katie Follett, now competing for Brooks, is in Belgium this month to run in a series of meets called the Flanders Cup. Follett ran in the Leon Buyle Memorial on July 3 and set a new lifetime-best at 800-meters, clocking 2:05.32 to place sixth overall.
