Patterson finishes second at Aviva British Grand Prix in Gateshead...

GATESHEAD, England--Vancouver's Kara Patterson (left/photo by Paul Merca) finished second in the javelin at the Aviva British Grand Prix meet Saturday, as South Africa's Sunnette Viljoen took the victory, and ended Patterson's undefeated streak this season.

Viljoen took command of the competition from the opening round, throwing her winning mark of 211-0 (64.32m) in the first frame.

Patterson opened with a mark of 185-3 (56.47m), then followed with two fouls, and made her best mark of 207-0 (63.11m) in the fourth and final frame to overtake Olympic champion Barbora Spotakova of the Czech Republic for second, as Spotakova finished with a best of 203-3 (62.02m).

In the current Samsung Diamond League javelin rankings, Spotakova remains the leader with 8 points, with Patterson and Viljoen tied for second with 6 points each.

Former Washington Husky Mart Israel finished fourth in the discus, as the Estonian threw 214-9 (65.46m). short of his season best of 217-6 (66.31m), set four days earlier in Viljandi, Estonia.

The Samsung Diamond League series of meets continues on July 16th with the Meeting Areva at the Stade de France outside of Paris.

ANDERSON WINS SEMI-FINAL RACE AT NACAC U-23; DOCKENDORF TIES PR IN ALKI BEACH VAULT

In Miramar, Florida, Washington State's Jeshua Anderson ran the fastest time in the semifinal round of the 400 meter hurdles.

Anderson won his heat in a time of 48.85, and will be the favorite in Sunday's final.

In Seattle, former Husky Carly Dockendorf tied her personal best in winning the Alki Swashbuckler Beach Vault at Alki Beach, jumping 14-7.25 (4.45m).

Dockendorf and runner-up Mary Saxer were tied at 14-3 1/4 (4.35m), when both missed three times at 14-7.25. In a jumpoff to determine the winner, Dockendorf cleared 14-7.25, while Saxer missed.
