WSU's Holly Parent doesn't advance to high jump finals in Moncton...

MONCTON, New Brunswick--Despite a clearance at 5-10 (1.78m), Washington State University rising sophomore Holly Parent (left/photo courtesy Athletics Canada) did not advance to the finals in the women's high jump Friday morning at the IAAF World Junior Track & Field Championships

Parent, competing in her second world junior meet, finished ninth in group A, as the final qualifier for Sunday's finals also cleared 5-10.

However, the Canadian had a miss at 5-8 1/2 (1.74m), and at 5-10, which cost her an opportunity to advance to the finals. She missed all three attempts at 5-11 1/4 (1.81m), as six competitors from her flight advanced to Sunday's finals by clearing that height.

University of Washington rising sophomore Joe Zimmerman from Spokane will compete in the finals of the men's javelin Friday night.

The lone athlete with Washington connections that hasn't competed is Rainier Beach HS grad Michael Berry, who is on Team USA's 4 x 400 relay pool. Team USA will be in the third semifinal on Saturday at 3:53 pm, Moncton time.

Highlights of the IAAF world junior championships are being shown on CBUT, the Vancouver, BC affiliate station of the Canadian Broadcasting Company (CBC).
