Ex-Husky Israel gets second in Padova...

PADOVA, Italy--Former University of Washington discus thrower Märt Israel finished second in his specialty at the XXV Meeting Internazionale in the Italian city.

In a repeat of Wednesday's competition in Rythymno, Greece, Israel finished second to Lithuania's legendary Virjilijus Alekna, who threw 219-11 (67.05) to 214-5 (65.35m).

Washington State alum Ian Waltz (left/photo by Paul Merca) finished fourth with a toss of 199-3 (60.73m).

2007 world pole vault champion Brad Walker was entered in the event, but retired at his opening height of 18-0.5 (5.50m).

In the women's 1500, Tacoma's Brie Felnagle finished fifth in 4:10.48, while Washington alum Katie Follett was seventh at 4:11.95, as North Carolina alum Alice Schmidt took the victory in a PR 4:08.09.
