In Lignano, Italy, Gig Harbor's Mark Wieczorek finished eighth in the 800 meters at the Meeting Internazionale di Atletica Leggera.

Wieczorek, an Olympic Trials finalist, ran 1:45.96, as Kenya's Job Kinyor took the win in 1:44.39.

University of Washington alum Katie Mackey also finished eighth in the women's 1500, as she ran 4:08.09, as Minnesota alum Gabriele Anderson took the win in 4:04.84.

Speaking of Wieczorek, here's an interesting take on the self-funded runner from Gig Harbor whose trademark racing uniform is a green and blue striped V-neck t-shirt from American Eagle and a blue headband, written by Andy Chan of San Francisco, who was the high school coach of Shannon Rowbury.

Coincidentally, Wieczorek tweeted an inquiry to Bothell based Brooks Sports (of the Run Happy plane fame) about obtaining sponsorship.

Wieczorek, who was the Washington state high school cross country coach of the year for leading Gig Harbor to a state 4A title, should be a guy that a local company such as Brooks should go after!
