Washington 4A 1600m champ Izaic Yorks seventh in heat at world juniors...

BARCELONA, Spain--On day one of competition at the IAAF World Junior Track & Field Championships, Lakes HS senior Izaic Yorks (left/photo courtesy IAAF) finished seventh in his heat of the 1500 meters.

Yorks, the reigning Washington state 4A 1600m champ and runner-up at last month's USA junior championships, was hanging near the front of the chase pack for the first two laps, vying for a fast qualifying time in his heat, but slipped back to seventh at the tape. He finished with a time of 3:49.21.

Yorks will attend the University of Portland this fall.

On Thursday, Heritage HS senior Sean Keller from Vancouver, the reigning USA junior champion and Olympic Trials finalist in the javelin, opens up competition in his specialty.

Day 1 results from the IAAF World Junior Championships are available here.
