NCAA D1 track and field championships get underway Wednesday at Hayward Field...

EUGENE--With the pros from last Saturday's Nike Prefontaine Classic long gone from Hayward Field on the campus of the University of Oregon, it's the collegians' turn to take over one of the country's most famous venues, as the NCAA Division I track and field championships begins Wednesday.

The University of Washington's Jeremy Taiwo (left/photos courtesy University of Washington) helps get the meet started as the decathlon 100 opens the meet at high noon.  Taiwo set a personal best score of 7998 points at last month's Pac-12 decathlon championship meet and was in an epic battle with Oregon's Dakotah Keys, who defended his conference championship by a slim 3-point margin.

Taiwo is looking to score in the decathlon in his final NCAA meet as a Husky, as well as attain the IAAF 'A' standard for this summer's world championships.

University Place native Andrea Geubelle looks to pull off a repeat of her indoor double victory, as she competes in the women's long jump finals Wednesday. The University of Kansas senior is seeded third in the event, and will have to battle Christabel Nettey of Arizona State and Kylie Price of UCLA if she's to win the long jump crown.

In the other final contested Wednesday involving a Washington athlete, the Huskies' Megan Goethals will begin her double, as she runs in the women's 10000 final, where she's seeded third behind Iowa State's Betsy Saina, and Wichita State's Aliphine Tuliamuk-Bolton.

Among those competing in semi final action Wednesday includes the Huskies' Baylee Mires (w800); Washington State's Shawna Fermin (w400); Washington's Kayla Stueckle and Gianna Woodruff (w400 hurdles); the Huskies' 4 x 100m relay team of Chris Williams, James Alaka, Quadelle Satterwhite, and Matt Anthony; Rainier Beach HS grad Michael Berry of Oregon (m400); and Tacoma native Germe Poston of the University of Arizona in the women's 4 x 100 relay.

Wednesday's action at the NCAA championships will be streamed via the Pac-12.com portal.  The meet will also be carried beginning Thursday on ESPNU, ESPN3.com and on the Watch ESPN app.
