NEW ORLEANS--The University of Washington women's track & field team enters the 2014 indoor season ranked #20 by the USTFCCCA in its Division I pre-season team rankings.

According to the USTFCCCA, the purpose and methodology of the rankings is to create an index that showcases the teams that have the best potential of achieving the top spots in the national team race. Rankings points do not equate with NCAA Championships team points, and the computer rankings should not be referred to as a "poll" as no voting occurs.

The national team rankings are complied by mathematical formulae based on national descending order lists and data taken from previous seasons. For the preseason ranking and early-season rankings, data will be taken from previous seasons as well as the current season.

The USTFCCCA's top five women's squads include Texas, Texas A&M, Florida, Oregon, and Georgia.

Other MPSF women's squads ranked in the pre-season poll include #9 Stanford, and #23 Arizona State.

The men's national top five include Arkansas, Florida, Oregon, Wisconsin and Texas A&M.

MPSF men's teams ranked in the top 25 include #14 Colorado, #17 Arizona, #20 Stanford, and #21 Arizona State.

The University of Washington opens its 2014 season Saturday when it hosts the UW Indoor Preview  at the Dempsey Indoor, beginning at 8 am and going all day.
