Central Washington's Tayler Fettig earns silver medal at GNAC heptathlon championship...
ELLENSBURG--Central Washington's Tayler Fettig (above/photo courtesy Central Washington University), who was in second after the first day, placed second in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference's heptathlon at Tomlinson Stadium on the Central Washington campus Tuesday.
Fettig, a NCAA Division II All American during the indoor season in the high jump, where she finished sixth, earned a score of 4604 points to finish behind winner Karolin Anders from Alaska Anchorage, who scored 4997 points, bolstered by wins in the shot put, 200, and long jump.
Fettig's lone win came in her specialty, the high jump, where she cleared 5-8 (1.73m), scoring 891 points.
Seattle Pacific's Maddi Hommes was third at 4391 points. Saint Martin's Irene Moore was fourth with 4347 points, while the Seattle Pacific duo of Ali Sowers and Cheryl Hong were seventh and eighth with 3829 and 3738 points, respectively.
In the men's decathlon competition, Saint Martin's David Durden finished third with a two-day total score of 6036 points, as Cody Thomas of Alaska Anchorage won the title with 6617 points.
Michael Stralser from Western Washington finished fifth with 5999 points, one point out of fourth.
Brandon Roddewig and Justin Peterson of Central Washington were sixth and seventh with 5984 and 5973 points, respectively.
For the schools in the GNAC conference, this week marks the final week of the regular season, as the conference championship meet resumes next weekend on the campus of Western Oregon University.
In the latest USTFCCCA computer rankings that were released Tuesday, there was some shuffling of the deck, with this week's rankings using solely marks made this season.
The Washington women's team dropped slightly to #21 from #19.
The top five women's teams are Texas, Florida, Texas A&M, Oregon and Georgia.
Pac-12 schools ranked in the top 25 include USC (8), Arizona (11), Arizona State (23), and Stanford (24).
On the men's side, the top five men's teams are Florida, Texas A&M, Arkansas, Oregon, and Georgia.
Pac-12 schools ranked in the top 25 include USC (12) and UCLA (13), as Arizona and California dropped out of the top 25.
In Division II, the Western Washington women are the only Washington based school to earn a national ranking at #19, as Seattle Pacific dropped out of the top 25.
The top three women's teams are Grand Valley State, Adams State and Johnson C. Smith.
Alaska Anchorage is the only other GNAC women's team in the top 25 at #15.
Saint Augustine's, Adams State and Ashland are the top 3 Division II schools in the men's computer rankings, with Alaska Anchorage the lone GNAC men's school ranked at #7.
