PALO ALTO, California--University of Washington senior Megan Goethals finished fifth in the women's 10000 at the Stanford Invitational to highlight the distance races Friday night at Cobb Track and Angell Field on the Stanford campus.

Goethals, who had not been a factor for the Huskies during the indoor season, finished in a time of 33:05.77, just off of her school record and personal best time of 32:52.78, set last year.

Goethals, who was in fourth for most of the race, was passed on the final lap by Sequim native Stephanie Dinius, who finished in 32:59.10.

In the same race, Washington senior Lindsay Flanagan was ninth in 33:15.12, and Redmond HS graduate Devin McMahon, competing for Cornell, was 22nd in 34:05.46.

The men's 10000 saw UW cross country All-American Aaron Nelson finish 12th in 28:44.65, good for the second fastest time in school history.

Former NCAA 1500m champ Katie Flood of the Huskies made her debut at 5000 meters, as she finished 11th in 15:45.60.

In another section of the 5000, Husky freshman Katie Knight finished third in 15:58.42, while Washington State senior Ruby Roberts was tenth in 16:09.02, a new school record.
