Former Husky Ingvill Måkestad Bovin runs season best in Glasgow...
GLASGOW, Scotland--Former University of Washington standout Ingvill Måkestad Bovin (left/photo by Paul Merca) ran a season best in the 1500 meters as she placed seventh at the Sainsbury's Glasgow Grand Prix meeting at Hampden Park, where the Commonwealth Games track & field competition will be held later this month.
Måkestad Bovin, who was a finalist at this distance at the 2011 world championships in Daegu, ran 4:04.33, just over two seconds off of her personal best of 4:02.20 from four years ago, as Sifan Hassan of the Netherlands took the win in a meet record 4:00.67.
In the first ever meeting outdoors between Washington alum Brad Walker, and reigning Pac-12 champion and current Husky Jax Thoirs, it was the current Dawg that won the head to head, as Thoirs, competing in his hometown, cleared 17-6 1/2 (5.35m).
Walker opened at 18-0 1/2 (5.50m) and failed in his three attempts to clear a height.
Thoirs placed in a tie for fourth, as Poland's Pawel Wojciechowski cleared 18-7 1/4 (5.67m) on a bright but breezy day at Hampden Park.
In the men's 5000, Washington State alum Bernard Lagat was 12th in a season best 13:27.08, as Hagos Gerhiwet of Ethiopia won in 13:11.09.
Competition in the Sainsbury's Glasgow Grand Prix meeting at Hampden Park, which is the ninth stop on the IAAF's Diamond League tour, resumes Saturday, as Garrett Heath of the Brooks Beasts will run the men's 1500.
