WHAT'S ON TAP: European circuit and TrackTown Classic in Edmonton highlight this weekend...

Athletes with Washington ties are competing in two venues Saturday in Europe, while a small group are staying within the confines of the North American continent Sunday.

In Kortrijk, Belgium, a predominantly middle distance group will run in the Guldensporenmeeting at the Stedelijk Sportcentrum Wembley.

In the women’s 800, Seattle Pacific alum McKayla Fricker (left/photo by Paul Merca) and UW alum Katie Mackey of the Brooks Beasts are among those in the field.

The men’s 1500 will have Auburn/Riverside HS alum Jordan McNamara and Riley Masters of the Seattle based Brooks Beasts.

Camas HS grad Alexa Efraimson is the top seed in the women’s 1500.


In Madrid, Spain, Rainier Beach HS grad Michael Berry is entered in the 400 at the Madrid IAAF World Challenge meet at the Moratalaz Municipal Sports Center.  Washington State alum Jeshua Anderson is entered in the 400 hurdles, while former Husky Märt Israel is entered in the discus.


In Edmonton, a number of Washington affiliated athletes will participate in Sunday’s TrackTown Classic at Foote Field on Sunday, headlined by reigning US national champ Nick Symmonds of the Brooks Beasts, who will be joined by teammate Mark Wieczorek.

Reigning American pole vault record holder and University of Washington alum Brad Walker competes against a deep field led by Canadian Shawn Barber.

Training partners Phoebe Wright and Megan Malasarte are entered in the women’s 800, while Rainier Beach HS grad Ginnie Crawford is entered in the women’s 100 hurdles, along with Idaho alum and former UW graduate assistant coach Christie Gordon.
