Aaron Nelson & Tera Novy named Pac-12 Conference athletes of the week...

SAN FRANCISCO—The Pac-12 Conference announced that University of Washington senior Aaron Nelson (left/photo by Paul Merca) was named the conference’s men’s track athlete of the week for meets ending the week of April 2nd.

Nelson went to number one in the NCAA this season in the 10,000 meters after he was the top collegiate finisher out of a field with multiple professional runners at the Stanford Invitational over the weekend. Nelson ran a time of 28:53.70 in his first 10k on the track in two years.

Also honored by the Pac-12 as the conference’s women’s field event athlete of the week was USC senior Tera Novy (left/photo by Kirby Lee, Image of Sport) from Montesano.  Novy, a 2012 graduate of Montesano who won a Washington state 1A title, won the women’s discus throw at the California Collegiate Invitational on April 2nd, breaking her school record with a throw of 196-6 (59.90m), beating the field by nearly four feet.

The mark was a 2-foot, 7-inch personal best and is the top throw in the country this season. More importantly, she solidified her qualifying position for this summer’s US Olympic Trials in Eugene.

Novy first got her Olympic Trials qualifier at last year’s NCAA championship meet, where she finished fourth with a toss of 191-4 (58.31m).  Her personal best at the end of the 2015 season was 193-11 (59.12m), set at the Cal State LA Twilight meet on April 16th, before the start of the May 1st Olympic Trials qualifying window.

Colorado's Erin Clark, and Stanford's Harrison Williams were named the conference's women's track and men's field event athletes of the week for last weekend's performances.
